It was back in the 1980s when I began learning my trade, at Toothills Furniture. There I was an apprentice and learned all the techniques and skills of making high-end furniture, including leather sofas and chairs.
It was during this time I discovered my passion and talent for furniture and this started my life-long love of the industry.
From here I worked for various manufacturers, gaining new skills and honing my craft with each new role.
During this time, I worked for some high-end furniture manufacturers, including Harper and Harper – owned by David Harper from Bargain Hunt. Here I learned antique restoration and traditional upholstery.
Alongside this, I’ve spent many years in service upholstery – fixing issues such as delivery damage and carrying out insurance work for high-end, high quality furniture manufacturers, including some well-known names such as Harveys, SCS, Barker and Stonehouse, Barkers and Furniture Village amongst others.
After all these years, I decided it was time to branch out on my own and offer people the benefit of my 40+ years of experience and high-quality training, so I set up Imperial Leather Repair in Darlington and aim to give excellent service and fantastic value to anyone in need of furniture repair or restoration, whether you’re a corporation, small business or an individual in the local area or further afield in York or Durham.
